Yesterday was the first day of summer, which means we all get to enjoy the summer sun and for those of us fortunate enough to be close to a beach, some beach time fun. While a healthy dose of vitamin D does our bodies good, too much can be really harmful. If you find you’ve soaked in a few too many UV rays, here are some great ways to soothe your damaged skin:
Skip the extra products
While allowing your skin to heal, stick with the essentials. Apply some face lotion, preferably with spf, maybe some Mineral Mascara (check out our organic mascara) and light concealer. Otherwise, keeping it simple is key!
Avoid washing and showering with hot water
While your skin is healing, and even when it isn’t, hot water strips your skin of its natural oils. Hot water should be avoided when healing, and just as a general rule of thumb. (Though let's be real, we all need a hot bath now and then.)
Avoid foaming cleansers
Foaming cleansers are especially drying and should be avoided when your skin is irritated. Switch to a gentle cleanser while healing!
Avoid harsh chemicals
Harsh chemicals can be harmful on even non sensitive skin, so if you’re more prone to skin damage, consider switching your skin and body care products to those with organic ingredients. EVXO Cosmetics, for example, is proud to carry an entire line of some of the best natural makeup available, made with organic cosmetics that have a short list of ingredients, which is ideal for sensitive skin! Also be sure to pay attention to what you’re using to wash your clothes. Consider switching to a non toxic laundry detergent for sensitive skin.
Avoid fragrances
While you’re healing irritation, skip the perfume or cologne as fragrances exacerbate the issue. I’m sure you’ll still smell lovely!
Lastly, Prevention
At the end of the day, prevention is key. Make sure to wear hats and sunscreen as well as products with natural sun protecting ingredients like our Organic Liquid Mineral Foundation. If it’s cold out, protect your hands and face with gloves and a scarf. But we all slip up from time to time, and when that happens you’ll be well prepared!
